The Silverstone Experience is a new, immersive attraction, telling the story of over 70 years’ motorsports at Silverstone with hands-on displays, a collection of unique cars and racing memorabilia. The project to create an educational centre for British motor sport began in 2012 with the charitable mission of bringing to the public a museum for the exhibition and preservation of artefacts, archives, and collections of educational and historic value.

It has taken over seven years and cost more than £20 million to convert the former Second World War RAF hangar into a state-of-the-art 4000m visitor attraction, creating a home for the important BRDC archive, and a hub for motor sport fans and families to explore racing at Silverstone.

Thanks to support from the National Lottery Heritage Fund, a team of skilled archivists was able to preserve the historic building and protect the archive for the future, working for years to bring to life many untold and inspiring stories to entertain visitors.

The project has been filled with challenges throughout and all those involved in achieving the mission were delighted to see The Silverstone Experience eventually open its doors in 2019. Central Fabrications was involved in the end stages of the project, between November 2017 and 2019, supplying louvres, panelling, capping, gutters, and flashings for the external works.
